Sanford’s Reopens Tonight

Aug. 19, 2015 By Jackie Strawbridge

The highly anticipated, expanded Sanford’s Restaurant will open its doors Wednesday evening.

The restaurant, located at 30-13 Broadway, has taken over an adjacent space in order to add a whiskey bar and more than 50 seats.

Owner Christ Karalekas said that a soft-open phase with a limited dinner menu will run from Wednesday to next week. Hours during the soft open will be 5 p.m. to about 1 a.m.

The menu is still being finalized, but Karalekas said that butternut squash ravioli – “always a crowd pleaser” – as well as tuna tartare and prime steaks will be served.

Karalekas said a grand opening is expected to take place early next week. Sanford’s will no longer be open 24/7, but will offer what Karalekas called “late-night dining.” Full hours will be 8 a.m. to about 3 a.m., with breakfast, prix-fixe brunch, lunch and dinner served.

A major element of the expansion is the restaurant’s new whiskey bar, with 140 bourbons, 90 single malts and 35 ryes available, according to Karalekas.

“Whiskey is big. It’s very hot right now,” Karalekas said.

Owners hope to introduce tastings and theme nights in the future.

Run by Karalekas and his brother Gus, the restaurant has been in the family for the past 40 years.

Sanford’s expanded into the space that was formerly occupied by Broadway Natural, a juice shop.
