A film on 1980s youth culture from the director behind “The Wrestler” is holding an open casting call for background roles.
The production team is looking for anyone aged 18-24 to appear as an extra in “Cruise,” a movie set in Queens in the summer of 1987. The movie will star model Emily Ratajkowski and Disney actor Spencer Boldman and is being directed and written by Robert Siegel.
“We’re trying to make a classic film that’s going to going to make everyone in Queens proud,” said Sharoz Makarechi, who is attached to the project as Siegel’s assistant. “It’s going to be fun. It has all kind of adventure and love and romance and muscle cars.”
The film is based on a short film from Queens native Gino Cafarelli, who is serving as one of the producers on “Cruise.” Cafarelli’s original pitch focused on the racing culture of Whitestone youths in the 1980s and was titled “Franny Lew,” a local nickname for Francis Lewis Boulevard.
Participants looking to be an extra in “Cruise” must be at least 18 years old and should wear 1980s attire, hair and makeup.
Filming will take place on Oct. 15 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Whitestone Lanes; on Oct. 21, 22 and 23 all night at Cunningham Park; and Oct. 28 all night at a Carvel ice cream store on 28-28 Francis Lewis Blvd. More specific information will be provided to those who respond and can commit to filming.
Those interested in auditioning must send in their name, email and contact number tocruiseBGcasting@gmail.com, along with the dates on which they are available to film.
