Woodside Houses to Undergo a $1 million Security Upgrade

Oct. 28, 2015 By Michael Florio

Security systems at the Woodside Houses are going to be upgraded.

Assemblywoman Margaret Markey has announced a grant of $1 million for security upgrades at the 20-building housing complex. The grant will pay for security cameras in every elevator, hallway, lobby and stairwell throughout the complex.

The money is part of the $42 million total in New York State funding for the New York City Housing Authority crime-fighting enhancements.

“Every resident of Woodside Houses deserves a safe place to call home,” Markey said. “These security improvements will give residents a better sense of security and help our brave police officers better do their work.”

State Sen. Jose Peralta joined Markey on Tuesday when she made this announcement.

“Residents in public housing have a right to feel safe and secure in their homes, and a security camera upgrade at this twenty-two acre housing complex will go a long way toward achieving this,” he said.

“This crime fighting tool allows residents to be better protected.”
