The space occupied by Subway Restaurant on the corner of 44th and Queens Blvd (north) is being split into two.
Subway will continue to occupy half of the 43-19 Queens Blvd ground floor space with the other half being walled off to become a lottery/convenience store. The convenience store is expected to open early January.
The restaurant opened on Queens Blvd in 2010 and its franchise owners also included a bodega-like “express grocery” at the time.
The site has been occupied by several bodega owners over the years. Prior to 2010, it was rented by Welcome Mart, a small grocery store.
The building that houses Subway, the upstairs apartments and the stores around the corner—such as the hair salon and the former real estate office—sold on Sept. 8 for $3.45 million to an entity registered in Flushing by the name of 43-19 Sunnyside LLC.
There is no sign of impending development. The new owner has not filed for permits with the Department of Buildings.
