A Queens Boulevard bar will bring live jazz to Sunnyside every month starting next week.

The Courtyard Ale House, located at 40-18 Queens Blvd., will hold Jazz Night on the last Tuesday of every month, beginning next Tuesday.

The jazz night concept was sparked by local musician Trifon Dimitrov who mentioned the idea to Sinead Curran, a bartender at the Courtyard. Curran discussed it with her bosses who told her to run with the idea and the two began organizing the event.

Dimitrov, who plays in a jazz band called The Prodigals, will play the bass this Tuesday night. Each show, Dimitrov will bring his friends who play an assortment of instruments such as electric guitar and drums, according to Curran.

“Each month will have a different focus,” she said. “Trifon will play bass because he is phenomenal, but we will mix it up to give attendees a taste of the different styles of jazz.”

This event adds to the live music The Courtyard already offers, such as band nights every Thursday and Sunday and a live DJ on Saturdays.

It will also add variety to the strong music scene in Sunnyside, Curran said.

“It’s a worthy addition to the neighborhood’s music scene,” she said. “There is always so much going on in the neighborhood.”

Curran is optimistic that there will be a large turnout each jazz night.

“I really expect a lot of people to come in to check out Trifon,” she said. “I am hopeful over 100 people come in.”

The bar will offer different drink specials, including house wine for $5, a mixed drink with house liquors for $4 and a Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) and shot of house liquor for $7.

The event is free to attend.
