A Fresh Meadows man has been sentenced to 23 1/2 years in prison for a fatal 2011 shooting that killed a woman and wounded her son in the Pomonok houses.
Malik Wallace, 25, of Parsons Boulevard pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the shooting, which occurred outside the Pomonok Housing Complex during the Fourth of July weekend in 2011.
According to the charges, Wallace and co-defendant Lerome Robinson walked up to a vehicle parked on Jewel Avenue and shot inside, fatally striking Christina Coleman, 39, in the head. Coleman’s son, Hassan Gil, 18, was hit once in the chest and survived his injuries.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said the case was another example of the senseless gun violence plaguing the United States.
Robinson has since pleaded guilty to first-degree assault was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
