Fifth-grader brings loaded gun to Jamaica school: NYPD

By Gabriel Rom

JAMAICA — A fifth-grade student went to school Tuesday with his grandfather’s loaded 9mm pistol in his backpack, police said.

The 11-year-old boy snuck the weapon past school safety at PS 40, at 109-20 Union Hall St., but was subsequently caught, police said.

Police said the gun belongs to Kenneth Miley, 54, who lives near the school.

Miley was charged with criminal possession of weapon, endangering the welfare of child and reckless endangerment, police said.

The student was detained and the investigation was ongoing, according to the authorities.
