Police close off 54th Street between Roosevelt and Skillman Avenues

A 34-year-old man was struck repeatedly in the head with a metal pipe in Woodside this morning after getting into an argument with his two attackers, police said.
The incident took place at 1:45 am Saturday when the men started fighting near Roosevelt Avenue and 54th Street, police said.
The victim, who police said is a Woodside resident, was found lying on the ground with lacerations to his head at 41-24 54th Street. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The police recovered the pipe on the scene.
One of the suspects was apprehended and is in custody, although has not been charged at this point. Another suspect fled the scene.
