Five residents were rushed to the hospital early Tuesday morning after a carbon monoxide leak was detected in their Bayside home, FDNY officials said.
According to the Fire Department, units responded to a call at 5:24 a.m. at 226-04 77th Ave. in the Oakland Gardens section of the neighborhood.
Four of the people were transported to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in serious, but non-life-threatening condition, while one person was taken to Nassau County Medical Center in serious condition, FDNY reported.
FDNY has turned the investigation over to Con Edison. The utility company reported that the leak was caused by a faulty flue in the building’s chimney, releasing CO levels of 500 parts per million (ppm).
