Veterinarian To Open Clinic In Sunnyside

May 13, 2016 By Christian Murray

An Astoria-based veterinarian is opening a Sunnyside location.

The Sunnyside clinic will be located at 45-10 Skillman Ave. and will be operated by the owner of the Steinway Animal Hospital.

The Sunnyside clinic will not be open for a few months, according to a manager of the Steinway clinic. The owner, Dr. Ragaei Tadros, was not available for comment.

Tadros applied for building permits with the Department of Buildings on May 12 to convert the Skillman Avenue space into a veterinary clinic. The location had previously been occupied by the Sunnyside Nutritional Center.

The company promises high-end services at reasonable prices. It has 3 ½ stars on Yelp.

“At Steinway Animal Hospital, we are committed to bring the best Veterinary Medicine Technology to our community at affordable prices,” the company website reads.

Sunnyside currently has only one veterinary clinic, Sunnyside Pet Health Care, which is located at 47-04 Greenpoint Ave. This clinic has a 2-star rating on Yelp.

Rick Duro, the president of the Sunnyside United Dog Society (SUDS), was pleased to hear that a new clinic was opening.

He said that it was particularly good news for residents who don’t have cars. “They will now have an option,” he said. Meanwhile, for residents who drive to veterinarians outside of the neighborhood, they may find someone nearby that they like.

“I think they [Steinway Animal Hospital] will do well if they show that they really care for your dog or cat…and it’s not just about the upsell and making money,” Duro said.

“People’s dogs are like their kids,” he said. “You would never take your kid to someone who doesn’t care, isn’t personable and talks over you.”
