A police officer was hospitalized after sustaining gunshot wounds in Bayside on Friday afternoon, it was reported.

The incident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. Friday on Cloverdale Boulevard between Kingsbury Avenue and the Grand Central Parkway in the Oakland Gardens section of the neighborhood.

The New York Daily News reported that the officer, an off-duty NYPD lieutenant assigned to the 19th Precinct in Manhattan, was at his girlfriend’s home when he fired four shots at himself, striking him twice in the stomach.

The cop was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, according to a Fire Department source; the officer’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The shooting took place in the confines of the 111th Precinct, which covers much of Bayside.
