The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is inviting Queens residents to watch tennis matches for free on Sept.8.
Community Day at the U.S. Open gives city residents a chance to experience the matches and this year, a special ceremony will pay tribute to the Louis Armstrong Stadium, which is being razed and rebuilt for the 2018 U.S. Open.
Starting at 12 p.m., attendees will be able to watch men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles and junior competition at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. the farewell tribute to the Louis Armstrong Stadium will take place.
Grammy-nominated artist RAC will act as DJ and tennis all-stars James Blake and Gigi Fernandez will pair up to compete against junior players.
Attendees will also see players perform tennis tricks and have a chance to practice their own tricks and play with tennis legends.
