Be careful what you bid for.
A man who bid on the contents contained within a storage locker in Long Island City yesterday got an unpleasant surprise when he opened it to find two freezers full of frozen dead cats.
According to police, an employee at the storage facility, American Self-Storage at 47-30 29th Street, called 911 around 5:30 p.m. last night to report the discovery of the two freezers with about 40 dead cats inside.
The gruesome scene was discovered by a man who bid on the storage facility, owned by a woman who stopped making payments on the locker in July, according to the New York Post, which first reported the incident.
Police have identified the woman who previously owned the storage unit, but have not yet brought any charges against her.
The ASPCA was notified of the discovery and the NYPD is continuing to investigate.
