The Welling Court Mural Project in Astoria attracts admirers from all over, and one new development will incorporate graffiti into its walls for residents to enjoy.
The Graffiti House, a new seven-story apartment building located at 11-07 Welling Court, will have graffiti on every floor. Consisting of 28 one-bedroom units, a fitness center, rooftop deck, parking garage and private storage, the building will double as a rotating art gallery.
Art will be featured in the elevator, parking garage walls, south facade, and throughout the lobby and hallways. Brooklyn-based art group Ad Hoc Art, which organizes the nearby Welling Court Mural Project, helped to curate the pieces featured on the building, DNAinfo first reported.
The 10 participating artists include Cern, Lady Pink, CRASH, Daze and Noah McDonough. The pieces will range in size and concept – the piece on the south facade will be seven stories and the elevator piece will be nine stories.
About six of the units will be available for below-market rate through the city’s housing lottery.
The units will include wood flooring, new kitchen appliances, glass enclosed rain showers and heated bathroom floors, and most units will include private outdoor spaces.
The fitness studio features cycles, treadmills, ascent trainers, suspension bays and touchless bottle filling stations.
The rooftop deck includes an outdoor kitchen with grill, outdoor cinema, misting wall, outdoor overhead rain shower and drinking fountain.
Parking is available on site for 14 cars, three motorcycles, two ZipCar vehicles, 17 bicycles and five shared bicycles with baskets and built-in locks. Private storage cages will also be available to residents.
Prices range from $2,544 to $2,750 and occupancy is expected by Dec. 1. The developer is Aki Development and Architects Studio designed the building.
