Man is shot and killed in Jamaica

By Patrick Donachie

A Jamaica man was shot and killed early Sunday morning, and police are seeking information about his killer.

At about 2:18 a.m., police from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call about a man who was shot at the corner of 109th Avenue and Merrick Boulevard. Police arrived and searched the area, and found Niheen Donigan, 36, near the corner of 109th Avenue and 171st Street with a gunshot wound to the head. Donigan lived only a few blocks from the corner where he was found, according to information from police.

EMS workers arrived and transported Donigan to Jamaica Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Donigan was arrested in 2001 for the April 14, 2001 homicide of Aswald Walker following a dispute over drugs, according to police sources at the time. Police searched for Donigan for a month-and-a-half before finding him in Massapequa, Long Island. Donigan barricaded himself in a house for four hours before he surrended to police, according to the NYPD at the time.

Police said the investigation into Donigan’s murder was still ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident can call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS or submit tips online at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
