An elderly man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Astoria last week.

According to police, 88-year-old Savas Maounis of Astoria was crossing 23rd Avenue at 33rd Street around 12:30 p.m. last Friday when a driver in a 1999 green Ford Ecoline turned on to 23rd Avenue and hit him.

The man had trauma to his head and body, and was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.

The operator of the vehicle remained on the scene, and an investigation in to the incident is still ongoing.
