NYPD: 11-year-old girl sexually assaulted by cabbie in Astoria Sunday

Police are searching for the driver of a green taxi who allegedly grabbed and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Astoria this weekend.

According to published reports, the girl ran away from her Ridgewood house around 1 a.m. Sunday morning to visit her cousin. She got lost and wound up at the Woodside-61st street 7 train station.

Hours later, a green cab pulled up next to her while she was walking near 30th Avenue and 30th Street, and the driver allegedly offered her a ride, according to police. When she declined, he forced her in to the front seat of the car and grabbed her breasts..

Police said that the girl fled the cab when it stopped at a red light on 31st Drive near 12th Street, where she called 911 at around 4:20 am.

The victim was later taken to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation, according to police.

The investigation in to the assault is ongoing, and police are searching for a 40-year-old Indian or Hispanic man standing about 5-foot-8 with a medium build.

The suspect had messy black hair and brown eyes was wearing black jeans, a gray sweater and black Sketchers sneakers, according to the NY Daily News.
