Party City in Bayside will be closing in January after 20 years in the community.
One of the owners, Richard Tinari, said the franchise at 213-02 Northern Blvd. will be looking for a new location after the current landlord raised the rent by 50 percent above what the business is currently paying.
But that is not the only issue the store is having.
“With the rent being raised and the food vendors continuing to use our lot with no help from the community or law enforcement, it made no sense to continue at this location,” an e-mail from the ownership said.
The store owners are looking for a new space in Bayside, while the College Point location will operate as usual.
“We would like to thank the many, many people who have shopped Party City over the last 20 years. We truly appreciate it and we hope to see you soon,” the e-mail said.
According to the owners, a walk-in medical center will be taking Party City’s place and the last day for the fun store will be Jan. 8.
