Some residents of Glendale are experiencing a water service shutdown today, Tuesday, Jan. 24, due to construction work on the Cooper Plaza project at the corner of Myrtle and Cooper avenues.
According to the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), in order to install a water main, water service will be interrupted to homes on 71st Street between Myrtle Avenue and the dead end. The interruption started at 8 a.m. and will last until 4 p.m.
They did note, however, that the work may be completed earlier and water service returned soon than expected.
In order to avoid problems with sediment entering or leaving the plumbing system, the DDC recommends that residents shut off the water main valve in their house or building. Residents are asked to also shut off all water cooled appliances, and once water service is returned, they should turn the main house valve back on and flush the system by running all faucets for about 15 to 30 minutes.
DDC also announced two projects at the Cooper Plaza site that kicked off on Monday, Jan. 23.
One of those operations is for the installation of a 20-inch water main along Myrtle Avenue from 71st Street to the Myrtle and Cooper avenues intersection. The second project is the excavation and relocation of Verizon interference at Myrtle Avenue and 70th Street.
Both of these projects are expected to last until Jan. 27, and working hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
However, if there happens to be any unforeseen field and weather conditions, it may be necessary for DDC to change some of the scheduled work locations, operations and dates.
