A developer filed plans with the city Thursday to build a new mixed-use five-story building in Astoria, bringing more apartments and commercial space to the neighborhood.

According to the plans filed with the Department of Buildings, the property at 22-02 Astoria Boulevard will be redeveloped in to a five-story building with 16 apartments and commercial space on the first floor.

The plans show that each floor would have four apartments, and the first floor would have 943 square feet of retail space.

The building would have a total of 16,078 square feet of residential space, which means that each apartment would be about 1,000 square feet.

Under the proposal there would also be an eight car parking garage on the first floor, a laundry room and fitness center in the cellar, and a recreation area on the rooftop.

The new building will replace the Furniture Market that is currently on the site.

Correction: This story initially said that the site was currently a warehouse when it is the Furniture Market, a used furniture store.
