Cops are looking for a man who was caught on surveillance video installing a skimming machine in an ATM at an East Elmhurst 7-Eleven earlier this month.

The man walked into the chain, located at 87-16 Astoria Blvd. on March 10 at approximately 5 p.m. A customer noticed the device about 10 minutes later and notified employees who called the police.

Officers from the 115th Precinct removed the device, which uses a counterfeit reader that scans and stores card information. Small cameras installed on the ATM tip off thieves to the card’s PIN number. Such devices have been installed by crooks across Queens in recent months, and police have warned the public to be on guard against them.

The suspect in the East Elmhurst case was last seen wearing a blue jacket, gray sweat pants, a blue baseball cap and glasses.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
