Two men are recovering at a local hospital after being shot on an Elmhurst street a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday night, police sources said.
According to law enforcement sources, the shooting took place at 11:54 p.m. on July 19 in the vicinity of 94th Street and 45th Avenue, a short distance from a footbridge over the Long Island Rail Road’s Port Washington branch.
Officers from the 110th Precinct, in responding to a 911 call, found a 21-year-old man shot in the head and a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face. Paramedics rushed both men to Elmhurst Hospital, where they are being treated for injuries not considered life-threatening at this time.
Sources familiar with the investigation said that the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unknown, but that the victims had been seen with a group of unidentified Hispanic males moments before the shots rang out.
The 110th Precinct Detective Squad is conducting the probe. In a post to the 110th Precinct’s Twitter account, Inspector Christopher Manson — the precinct’s commander — urged anyone with information about the shooting to call the command at 718-476-9311. All calls are kept confidential.
