Driver flees on foot after hitting 59-year-old cyclist with car by Ravenswood Houses

A 59-year-old cyclist was left in critical condition after being struck by a car whose driver fled the scene on foot Thursday night, according to police.

At 10:54 p.m. on Aug. 17, a white Mercedes-Benz was traveling west on 36th Avenue and approaching 12th Street by the Ravenswood Houses at around the same time a 59-year-old male cyclist was riding on 12th Street and turning onto 36th Avenue. The cyclist and the car collided at the intersection, where the cyclist was left critically injured at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz fled the intersection and continued to drive until they reached 37th Avenue and 11th Street, where they fled the vehicle on foot.

The cyclist was taken to Astoria General Hospital, and was the only person injured at the scene.

Police are working on identifying suspects.
