Mamu Thai Noodle, a well-known Astoria restaurant, has been temporarily closed by the Department of Health (DOH).
The eatery, located at 36-02 36 Avenue, was cited for multiple sanitary violations including evidence of live roaches and flies and improperly cleaned surfaces.
The DOH inspected the restaurant on Aug 29.
The restaurant serves mainstream Thai food, from Pad Thai to curry dishes. It opened in 2014 after gaining a large following selling its food from a truck.
The following violations were found at the premises, with the first five labeled “critical.”
Sanitary Violations
1) Hot food item not held at or above 140º F.
2) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
3) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
4) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
5) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.
6) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
7) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.
