The Parks Department is looking to revamp a small park located by the Triborough Bridge and is holding a public meeting Monday night to solicit ideas and has created a portal on it website to take suggestions starting Tuesday.
Chappetto Square, a 1.25 acre park located on Hoyt Ave (between 21st and 23rd streets), is about to undergo a makeover following its September selection as part of the Mayor’s NYC Community Parks Initiative (CPI) where it was named one of 11 sites to split $65 million to be upgraded.
The CPI is a $318 million citywide program that aims to renovate and upgrade 67 parks that have received less than $250,000 over the last 20 years.
The park, which currently contains a hockey rink and a flagpole, will be “totally reconstructed,” said Meghan Lalor, a spokeswoman for the Parks Dept.
Tonight’s meeting takes place at PS 85, located at 23-70 31st Street. It goes from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Residents will have two weeks starting Tuesday to go online and post their ideas at https://www.nycgovparks.org/planning-and-building/input
