Queens residents can finish up their spring cleaning efforts this weekend in Douglaston at a free recycling event.

St. Anastasia Church will serve as an electronics drop-off location on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Accepted materials include working and non-working computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, computer mice, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, phones, cellphones, audio/visual equipment and PDAs. The collected materials will be either reused or safely recycled.

The drop-off site will be set up in the church’s parking lot along Northern Boulevard. Participants are asked to enter the lot from Alameda Avenue.

Local boy scouts will be on site to help with unloading and loading the electronics, according to Douglas Montgomery, who helped organize the event. The collection is also sponsored by the Lower East Side Ecology Center, Home NY and the Douglaston Garden Club.

St. Anastasia Church is located at 45-14 245th St. Questions can be directed to the Ecology Center at 212-477-4022.

E-waste recycling has been required by New York State law since Jan. 1, 2015. It is illegal to discard electronics in the trash.

In 2017, the Ecology Center collected over 1 million pounds of electronic waste through 74 collection events across the city and drop-offs at their Brooklyn warehouse. View a list of frequently asked question about the organization’s collection events here.
