Cops cuff man who threw a suitcase at an employee at Elmhurst grocery store during argument

Police arrested on Wednesday an apparently unhappy customer who allegedly assaulted a worker at an Elmhurst grocery store last month.

According to police, at 12:30 p.m. on May 17, an unknown man got into an argument with a female employee over a sales transaction inside of HingHing Grocery store, located at 93-26 Corona Ave. During the argument, the suspect threw a piece of luggage at the employee, causing a contusion on her head.

The suspect fled the scene. The victim was not taken to the hospital.

On June 6, officers arrested Manuel Escobar, 60, and charged him with assault. Authorities familiar with the investigation said that on-duty officers saw Escobar and brought him in for questioning after recognizing him from surveillance video.
