A man is fighting for his life after being shot at Ravenswood Houses early Sunday, while another is in serious condition after being shot at Astoria Houses around the same time, police said.

The first shooting took place at Astoria Houses, located at 4-10 27th Ave., when a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg at 1:02 a.m., July 29, after getting into a verbal dispute with the perpetrator.

The victim was take to Elmhurst Hospital, police said, and is not critically injured. Police have no further information on incident and are continuing their investigation at this time.

Minutes later, at 1:09 a.m., a 39-year-old man was shot four times in the back at Ravenswood Houses, located at 21-20 35th Ave., and is not expected to survive, police said. The victim was taken to Cornell Hospital in Manhattan.

The investigation is ongoing.

There has been a significant increase in the number of shootings that have taken place in the 114th Precinct this year. The NYPD reports that 15 people have been shot in the precinct for the year through July 22, up from five for the same period a year ago.

“Most of our shootings are taking place on housing developments,” said Deputy Inspector Osvaldo Nunez at the 114th Community Precinct Meeting last month.

He said the NYPD is monitoring a number of crews—which consist of between 15 to 30 members—in the housing developments.

He said that there are five known crews in Queensbridge, four in Ravenswood, two in Astoria Houses and one in Woodside Houses. A small dispute between a crew can result in a shooting.
