The owners of a bakery that will serve traditional and innovative donuts plan to open on 23rd Avenue in Astoria by the end of July.

Sugar & Water, a grab-and-go bakery specializing in donuts, will open at 29-14 23rd Ave. The shop will also offer cookies as well as cakes, cake pops, cupcakes and pies from Mia’s Brooklyn Bakery in Boerum Hill. The shop was formerly the location of the creperie 4fold Organic.

The menu has yet to be revealed, but the owners have discussed some of their offerings on social media. These include donuts flavored with coffee; donuts flavored with watermelon juice; and those with cereal.

Classic chocolate and glazed options will also be offered.

Sugar & Water will be opened by a team of seven entrepreneurs including Astoria native Athena Angel, the bakery owners wrote in an email.

Angel’s grandfather, Constantine Katsandres, owned a donut shop at 36-15 Ditmars Blvd, the current location of McCann’s Pub.

The shop, which Karsandres owned with his Uncle Tom, was called “Tom’s Cruller Shop.” The bakery specialized in “cruller” pastries, a dense twisted donut.

To honor Angel’s family legacy, Sugar & Water will offer its own cruller donut.

Another co-owner, Scottish Francis, claims that donuts are his specialty and even goes by the nickname “Donut King.”

The flavor he is best known for creating, according to Sugar & Water, is a unique variety called “Guinness Prosciutto.”

Francis, who gained notoriety for an appearance on Fox show MasterChef, will design Sugar & Water’s donuts.

Sugar & Water will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will deliver. The shop will also provide catering in partnership with the company Eleni Manolo Events.
