A 45-year-old man died after his motorcycle struck an SUV at a Ridgewood intersection early on Saturday morning, police announced.

Law enforcement sources said the wreck occurred at 4:38 a.m. on July 21 at the corner of Gates and Woodward avenues.

Based on information obtained during a preliminary investigation, detectives learned that the victim — Angel Cotto of upstate New City — was riding a 2016 BMW motorcycle eastbound along Gates Avenue just as a 2016 Chevrolet Trax SUV, operated by a 75-year-old man, was traveling north on Woodward Avenue.

Cops said that the motorcycle proceeded through a stop sign at the intersection and struck the driver’s side of the SUV at the intersection.

Officers from the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to a 911 call about the crash and, upon arriving, found Cotto lying on the street with body trauma. Paramedics rushed him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 75-year-old SUV driver remained at the scene after being injured in the collision. EMS units brought him to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center after he complained of leg pain; he’s currently listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
