A school supply drive aimed at helping local children for the upcoming school year has recently begun, with Sunnyside Community Services asking the community to pitch in.

The community services group is collecting new supplies ranging from pens, pencils, backpacks, binders, crayons, and more for students in the Woodside Houses and the Boulevard Family Residence.

“The cost of basic school supplies can be more than some families can afford every year,” said Sheena Sukhraj, SCS’ assistant executive director of youth and family services. “We can help children have a better school experience by making sure they have the tools they need to succeed.”

SCS is hoping to collect enough supplies for at least 200 students at the two residences, which are also in after-school partnerships with the community group.

Those interested in helping can either drop off new materials to the center or purchase supplies from Amazon through August 27.

Donations can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the center, located at 43-31 39th St. Online shoppers can also buy supplies listed under Sunnyside Community Services’ Amazon Wishlist. To access the list, click here.

For any questions about the drive, contact SCS at 718.784.6173 ext. 401 or send questions via email to info@scsny.org.
