Applications have opened for what the city deems to be affordable housing units within a Long Island City building.

The housing lottery covers three units—one studio and two one-bedrooms— at 10-44 Jackson Ave., a six-story, 10-unit development in the Hunters Point neighborhood. The units are set at 130 percent of the Area Median Income.

The studio, for example, is available for $2,201 a month for household sizes of up to two people. The income requirements begin at $75,463, and go up to $108,550.

The one-bedroom units are available for $2,320 a month for household sizes of up to three people. The starting income needed to qualify begins at $79,543, and goes up to $122,070.

The development includes an elevator, Wi-Fi, a roof terrace, and laundry room.

The applications are open to all, with a general preference for those who live in New York City and no special preference for Community Board 2 residents. Some preference, however, is given to mobility-disabled applicants and those with vision or hearing disabilities.

To apply, visit Housing Connect online. Applications can also be sent by mail by following the instructions on the housing application flyer.

Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than Sept. 20, 2018.
The developer is expected to receive a tax exemption as part of the city’s 421-a program, where the city gives a tax break to builders in exchange for providing some below market-rate rental units in the development.
