Twenty-two people have been arrested and variously charged with drug and weapons charges following a one-year undercover investigation in and around Queensbridge Houses, the Queens District Attorney announced today.
The investigation, which began in September 2017, involved police officers working undercover as narcotics customers at the public housing development. Over the course of the year they collected extensive surveillance, which led to the arrest of the 22 people on charges relating to the sale and possession of narcotics—including heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
The police also conduct court-authorized searches at nine locations within Queensbridge Houses, which also led to the seizure of four handguns, according to the District Attorney. Queensbridge Houses consists of 96 six-story buildings, comprised of a total of 3,142 units.
“This investigation is another example of police and prosecutors working together to reduce drug dealing that too often plagues our neighborhoods,” said Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown in a statement. “It is imperative that we stop those who would flood our streets with drugs and lure our children into lives of crime.”
