Police Search For Con Artists Who Stole $7,500 From 90-Year-Old Ravenswood Woman

Police are searching for at least two men who conned a 90-year-old woman from Ravenswood Houses out of $7,500 in cash on Tuesday.

Police say that one of the men called the woman on her home phone at 9 a.m. on Aug. 14 and told her that he was her loved one and that he had been arrested following a car crash. He told her he needed money to be bailed out of jail.

He then handed the phone over to another man, who claimed to be the loved one’s lawyer. He told the elderly woman that he needed $7,500 in cash to bail her loved one out of jail.

A man arrived at the woman’s 36th Avenue apartment at 2:30 p.m. that day.

The man is described as a white and about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He took the woman’s cash and left.

It was later discovered that the woman’s loved one had not been in arrested and that he had never contacted the victim.
