Astoria restaurant and bar The Shady Lady has been seized by the Department of Taxation and Finance for failing to pay its taxes.

The American-style eatery, which opened in 2013 at 34-19 30th Ave., was closed by the department today. The restaurant owes the state $374,494.37 in taxes dating back to 2016, a spokesperson for the Tax Department said.

The department considers seizing a business to be its last resort, a spokesperson for the department said earlier this week. The department typically contacts businesses repeatedly before seizing their facilities.

The spokesperson said that he could not comment further on the seizure of a particular business.

Shady Lady’s owners could not be reached for comment.
