A 10,000 square foot children’s play center with giant slides, rock climbing walls, ball pits and other attractions has opened on 37th Avenue.

Kanga’s Playcenter and Cafe opened at 32-15 37th Ave. yesterday. The center, which is intended for kids ages 1 to 11, offers a large interactive area for birthday parties and open play.

The Astoria play center is the second Kanga’s location, with the first being in Woodlands, Texas. Kanga’s is the American branch of Lollipops Playland and Cafe, which operates 27 locations in Australia.

Kids visiting the center can try out different attractions, including a four-lane slide, three rock climbing walls, a toddler play area, a teacup ride, a jumpy castle and two ball pits. Children can also try out four “cannons,” which shoot out balls.

The center is also available for parties and groups. Kanga’s offers four

rooms for private events.

The venue includes security measures to keep children safe while they’re playing. The center has a gated entry and exit and restricts access to adults without children. All children are required to wear wristbands to prevent them from leaving with wrong parent.

Adults are invited to watch over their children from a nearby cafe area, where they can enjoy meals and coffee. Adult admission, which costs $4.99, includes a coffee, tea or fountain drink.

Mike Zheng, the manager of the Astoria location, said that parents are also encouraged to hang out in the play area and spend time with their children.

“We have a lot of fun,” Zheng said. “This is a really safe, fun and clean environment and we want everyone to enjoy themselves.”

Kanga’s is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends. All children and adults are asked to wear socks in the play area.
