Con man swindles 82-year-old Corona woman out of $5,000 in bail phone call scam

Cops are looking for a man who conned an 82-year-old Corona woman out of thousands for fake bail money.

According to police, at 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 1, an 82-year-old woman was called at her home, located in the vicinity of Corona Avenue and Junction Boulevard, by an unknown man. The man told the victim that her grandson had been arrested and needed $5,000 for bail.

When the suspect arrived at the victim’s home, police said, she handed over the money and the perpetrator fled the scene toward Corona Avenue.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, which was subsequently reported to the 110th Precinct.

On Nov. 14, the NYPD released video footage of the crook connected to the scheme. He’s described as a balding, heavyset Hispanic man in his 30s and was last seen wearing dark eye glasses and all dark clothing.
