The Community Fall Giveaway — a partnership between Agape Bethel CDC, The Showing Hearts Foundation, the 103rd Precinct, Royal Waste and several local elected officials — gave away 400 turkeys Tuesday in Jamaica.

First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, located at 89-60 164th St., provided space for the giveaway, according to the church’s administrator Panya Wright.

The Nov. 20 event was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Turkeys and other related Thanksgiving staples were be provided to one individual per household.

State Sen. Leroy Comrie served as the point person behind the giveaway.

He participated in the event along with other elected officials, including state Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman and City Council Members I. Daneek Miller and Adrienne Adams.

“There will also be a clothing giveaway, too,” Andrew Taranto, a spokesman for Comrie’s office, said before the event.

The limited items will include coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, and gloves, according to Taranto.

“If more than 400 show up we want to make sure that everyone is leaving with something, like winter clothes and household goods,” Taranto added. “It’s a collaborative effort… they are all contributing in some way.”
