A chicken and burger joint that serves halal meat opened in Astoria earlier this week.

Texas Chicken and Burgers, which has 32 locations throughout the Northeast and Canada, opened at 24-07 Steinway St. Monday—its fifth restaurant in Queens.

Menu offerings include two-, three- or four-piece chicken biscuit meals with sides of macaroni and cheese; the Texas Cheeseburger seasoned with pepper and salt plus all the fixings; salads and desserts.

The Astoria location, which was previous occupied by Pizza Ghetti, has about 40 seats and the restaurant does not serve alcohol at this location or any other.

The restaurant serves halal meat and says its meat comes from hormone-free, grain-fed animals.

Muhammad Barak, who manages the Astoria location, said that many Muslims in the neighborhood are attracted to the eatery’s halal meat.

“We have a lot of Muslims around here and these people search for halal options,” Barak said. “We have a lot of options to put on their plates.”

The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday plus Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.
