Sweet Afton Bar in Astoria will host its ninth annual holiday market featuring work from a 13 Queens artists and artisans on Sunday, Dec. 16, from noon to 5 p.m.

“I am all about local artists and this is why I do it every year,” said Christine Haber, founder and organizer of the holiday market.

Haber does not charge any of the participating artists a fee in order to sell their work in the bar, an uncommon practice in the local art scene. Haber wants artists to do more than “just worry about breaking even for a table.”

Hand-painted “marble” Christmas tree ornaments, Astoria-themed calendars, oakmoss and amber scented candles, knitted doggie infinity scarves and paintings of selfie-taking dictators are just some of the many unique pieces that will be for sale.

Vintage Queens NYC, Alice Lipping, Caryn Cast, Haber’s Tonic, I Heart Astoria T-shirts, AstridPaper and Home, Queens Knits, Cricket La Lou Totes, Michele Filorimo, The Societi, The Robot Army, AJ the Awful and AJ Woodworks are all participating in the one-day market. Each vendor will donate one item to be raffled off at the end of the market with all proceeds from the raffle going toward Concern Worldwide, a nonprofit that works to relieve poverty across the globe.

Visitors will still be able to eat and drink while the market is taking place at the bar. Brunch service will continue until 4:30 p.m. during the event. Sweet Afton is located at 30-09 34th St.

Attendees can peruse art and artisanal work while sipping on hot holiday beverages.
