Two men have been arrested for their part in an armed robbery of an Astoria bodega last month–and for the shooting a good Samaritan who tried to pursue them.
Hannibal Ali, 55, and Luis Zayas, 25, are two of four men police say are responsible for the armed holdup of Bonoful Grocery, located at 29-11 36th Ave, that took place around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Ali and the two unapprehended suspects–with Zayas waiting in the car–allegedly stormed in to the store, according to authorities. All three wore authentic-looking police shields around their necks.
The two unapprehended suspects were both wearing masks. One of them walked behind the counter and took money from the cash register and out of a bag. All three exited the store and rushed to a van where Zayas was waiting.
The teenage brother of the grocery-store owner ran out after the men as they rushed to the van. He was shot in the leg by one of the suspects and fell to the ground as the van drove off. He was not seriously injured.
Ali and Zayas have been charged with first and second degree robbery and second degree possession of a weapon.
They both face up to 25 years in prison and are due back in court Dec. 12.
