A Long Island City woman is asking for community help in funding VenDiva, an event that will promote women-owned business, entrepreneurs and artists.

Jasmine Rosario, VenDiva’s organizer, has created an online campaign in order to help raise funds. The goal is to raise $10,000 within the next 198 days.

“I want to prove that good things come out of when we get together and support each other,” said Rosario, a spoken word poet who recently started her own event planning business, Rose Garden events.

Although Rosario does have professional experience in planning, this VenDiva will be the biggest event she has ever organized. The event will be held at The Bordone LIC and will feature live music, spoken word performances, live art and a handful of guest speakers touching sexual abuse on social media, domestic violence and breast cancer survival.

According to Rosario, the inspiration for the event came after a brief but dark period in her life when issues with depression and anxiety were become difficult to manage. But luckily she was able to take few months away from work in order to prioritize her mental health.

“I had this epiphany,” said Rosario. She realized that she had to power to help other women and that she needed to do so.
