A new Mediterranean restaurant opened in Astoria on Thursday.

CimCim, located at 33-08 Ditmars Blvd, offers standard Mediterranean fare such as hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, beef and chicken shawarma, as well as shawarma bowls.

The restaurant’s name CimCim is the Turkish word for ‘sesame,’ which is an ingredient used in many of the dishes served at the location.

“[The seasoning] is known across Europe and the Middle East as a healthy and robust source of sustenance for thousands of years,” according to the owner of the restaurant who declined to provide his name. “The result is a menu that’s health conscious, made form the finest ingredients, and prepared with a sense of simple pride.”

The restaurant, which is about 1,800 square feet, has room for about 50 people. In addition, there will be outdoor seating in summer months.

The food options range in price from $4.95 for side dishes to $11 for main dishes. The restaurant also offers catering packages for 12 people or more that average at $22.95 per person.

The owner of CimCim has plenty of restaurant experience. He owns a chain of eateries called Flavors NYC in downtown Manhattan.

Flavors NYC serves specialty salads, soups, and pastas.
