The schedule for this season’s outdoor movie screenings on the Long Island City waterfront has been released, featuring a lineup of family friendly and classic films.
The free screenings for CinemaLIC, organized by the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy (HPPC) and Nestseekers, were selected from a survey conducted earlier this year, where hundreds of park-goers told the group what they wanted to see there.
The once-a-month movie screening kicks off with Sing on May 18 (at sunset), followed by Crazy Rich Asians in June and Dirty Dancing in July. August will see Jaws and Mary Poppins Returns will finish the season in September. The films are all free to view and the park will be open to the public.
The movies will be shown on a 30-foot inflatable screen with enhanced video projection equipment. The Manhattan skyline is expected to provide a spectacular backdrop.
“It is important for the Conservancy that we build community in our parks and provide a welcoming and safe environment for all,” said Rob Basch, HPPC president. “Cinema LIC delivers on this commitment as it provides perfect family entertainment for all.”
Nestseekers helped HPPC launch the movie series six years ago and has served as a sustaining sponsor every year since.
“Long Island City is a great community and Nestseekers is happy to present this programming to its residents,” said Adrian Lupu, senior vice president of project marketing for Nestseekers.
The NYC Ferry is also providing additional sponsorship.
