Live at the Gantries starts Tuesday, July 9

A series of free outdoor concerts will take place every Tuesday at Gantry Plaza State Park over July and August.
Featuring an assortment of Hot Jazz, Latin folk music and New Orleans Blues, Live at the Gantries aims to highlight the diverse local talent which represents the community of Queens.
The series will include eight concerts over the two months, each taking place on a Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Kicking off the series on July 9 is Yacouba Sissoko, who will perform traditional African songs using the kora, a 21-stringed instrument. Considered one of the best kora players in the world, Sissoko has shared the stage with esteemed artists like Paul Simon and Lauryn Hill. .
The series of concerts is produced by the Kupferburg Arts Center, the largest multidisciplinary arts complex in Queens which aims to deliver accessible and affordable performances to the borough’s residents.
A children’s concert from 123 Andres will conclude the Live at the Gantries series on August 27. Blending Spanish and English, 123 Andres is a bilingual artist who won a Latin Grammy for best children’s album with his last effort “Arriba Abajo” in 2016.
Live at the Gantries is also co-produced by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation in conjunction with Queens Theater and Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer.
