New York City’s “sweetest 5K” returns to Astoria Park this Saturday to challenge those with running shoes and a sweet tooth to make use of each.
On Oct. 12, participants will aim to complete a 5 kilometer run, while stopping to eat three cupcakes at checkpoints throughout the course. The run begins at 11 a.m. and is open to all ages.
A portion of the proceeds from the 7th annual race will benefit the volunteer management nonprofit New York Cares.
Rain or shine, more than 100 runners are expected to gather at Ditmars Boulevard between 19th Street and Shore Boulevard. Check-in will begin at 10:15 a.m., and runners are expected to sign in by 10:45 a.m.
Runners will munch down three small cupcakes provided by Butter Lane, a bakery in Manhattan’s East Village.
Participants can register here. Prices cost $45 for early registration and $60 after today. Registration includes an official NYC Cupcake Run t-shirt, a race bib, three cupcakes for eating during the race and a Cupcake Run gift bag.
All runners are invited for a free drink and food at the local bar Rocky McBride’s located at 27-01 23rd Ave.
