(Santathon in Sunnyside)
Dec. 5, 2019 By Allie Griffin
Dust off your santa suit and bar crawl for a good cause in Sunnyside this Saturday as part of the eighth annual Sunnyside Santathon.
Eight local bars are participating in the Dec. 7 crawl where pints of Stella cost just $4 all night with the purchase of a wristband. The crawl begins at 3 p.m. and continues “until late.”
The festive pub crawl also offers participants additional food and drink specials, live DJ sets, karaoke and a chance to win a $500 bar tab by hitting all eight bars in their best santa attire.
Wristbands for Sunnyside Santathon cost $10 and are now available for purchase at any of the participating bars. The wristbands will get bar-hoppers drink specials and deals. Event organizers encourage attendees to purchase and pick up their wristbands before Saturday.
All proceeds from the sale of wristbands will go to buy toys and warm clothing for children in need this holiday season.
Last year, the event raised $3,500 for organizations like Floating Hospital in Long Island City, Queen of Angels in Sunnyside, Hour Children in Long Island City and the Block Institute in Brooklyn.
“Because of the work done with Santathon, and the genuine kindness of [its] customers, we have been able to enrich the lives of hundreds of deserving families and children,” said Cynthia Davis, Director of Community Outreach at the Floating Hospital. “Santathon has supplied coats, clothing, shoes, socks and toys to scores of children who would have otherwise be bereft of any joy in this holiday season.”
All eight bars are also collecting new, unwrapped toys and warm clothing and winter outerwear for kids through Christmas.
The eight participating bars are:
Jack’s Fire Dept at 39-46 Skillman Ave.
Arriba Arriba Sunnyside at 40-15 Queens Blvd.
The Courtyard Ale House at 40-18 Queens Blvd.
