A Far Rockaway woman was killed and two others were injured when a motorist lost control of his car and crashed in Rosedale, near JFK Airport just before midnight Sunday.
Police from the 105th Precinct in Queens Village responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision at Rockaway Boulevard and Brookville Boulevard. They discovered a 25-year-old woman, a rear seat passenger, had been impaled in the collision, police said. EMS rushed the victim to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The NYPD released her identity Monday afternoon as Brigitte Mercado of Mott Avenue. The 28-year-old man who was driving the car was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition, police said. A 28-year-old man who was a front passenger was taken by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.
A preliminary investigation determined that a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Rockaway Boulevard when it struck a curb at Brookville Boulevard, resulting in the vehicle smashing into a metal fence at the location, police said.
The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
