A 30-year-old man who was riding a scooter in Long Island City Wednesday evening is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run SUV driver, according to police.

Police say that the 30-year-old was riding his scooter westbound on 44th Drive when he was hit at the intersection of Vernon Boulevard and 44th Drive.

The motorist, who police believe was in a black Porsche SUV, was travelling south bound on Vernon Boulevard at around 6 p.m. when he struck the scooter. The driver then fled the scene.

The 30-year-old was ejected from his scooter as a result of the collision, sustaining severe head trauma.

EMS responded and transported the man to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue where he was listed in critical condition last night.

Police said Thursday morning that the man’s condition is unchanged.
