With the season of giving in full swing, The Child Center of NY (TCCNY) in Forest Hills is requesting donations for its Holiday Toy Drive running through Friday, Dec. 23.
All donations will be used to purchase a specially selected holiday gift for one of the thousands of children helped through TCCNY’s youth services programs. With many families already struggling to provide necessities, the idea of a child receiving a gift from their “wish list” is a distant dream for most. The Child Center has already received about 6,000 requests for gifts for children in families facing such circumstances.
“Tragically, 1.4 million of our fellow New Yorkers, including one in five children, are living in poverty — which is twice the national rate,” said Kathleen Rivera, chief development & communications officer at TCCNY. “We know we can brighten the season for thousands of our city’s children, relying on the generosity of New Yorkers to fulfill as many wishes as possible for the kids who could use our help the most.”
The Child Center of NY’s mission is to strengthen children and families with the skills, opportunities and emotional support to build healthy, successful lives.
Founded in 1953, it is a multi-service organization that annually reaches 43,000 New Yorkers through 50 school and community locations, as well as virtual programs. The Child Center works in six main program areas: early childhood education; behavioral health; residential services; prevention and family support; health homes and integrated care; and youth development. The Child Center has become a powerful community presence, with programs throughout all five NYC boroughs and Long Island.
For TCCNY’s Holiday Toy Drive, an online donation of any size is the most effective way to ensure that a child in need can receive the gift they’ve always wanted. If you or your company would like to sponsor the wishes of a group of children, email fundraising@childcenterny.org.
